Kuznets swing

The Kuznets swing is a proposed economic fluctuation lasting roughly fifteen to twenty-five years. It is named after economist Simon Kuznets and is often linked with infrastructure, construction, demographic change, and migration.
The proposed cycle reflects long periods of investment in housing, transport, cities, utilities, and other capital-intensive systems. Population growth and migration may increase demand for construction and infrastructure, followed later by slower investment as capacity catches up.
Kuznets swings have also been associated with changes in income distribution, urbanisation, land values, and regional development. Different researchers use different periods and mechanisms.
Evidence for a stable, universal Kuznets cycle is disputed. Structural change, wars, policy, technology, financial conditions, and variations between countries can produce long fluctuations without a consistent repeating period.
