Brief summary
World Gold Council gold price and demand/supply data.
Article
The World Gold Council’s Goldhub provides gold-price series in multiple currencies and frequencies together with data on demand, supply, reserves and investment flows. The quoted benchmark price represents wholesale market trading rather than retail jewellery prices.
Gold demand comes from jewellery, technology, central banks and investment products such as bars, coins and exchange-traded funds. Mine production and recycling form the principal sources of supply.
Gold prices can respond to real interest rates, exchange rates, inflation expectations, financial stress, central-bank activity and changes in investor positioning. These influences do not operate with a fixed or universally stable cycle.
Comparisons should specify the currency, fixing or benchmark, frequency and inflation adjustment. Apparent long-term gains in one currency may partly reflect currency depreciation rather than an equivalent change in gold’s purchasing power.
