<p>Drawn from a full read-through of your own 327 unique posts to the WSM Yahoo Group (January–October 2004, with a few follow-ups into 2005). This was a remarkably active and foundational period — the Physics Unification series alone amounts to a compressed statement of the entire harmonics theory research program.</p>
<h2 class="western">The Physics Unification series (October 2004)</h2>
<p>Cross-posted simultaneously to WSM and cyclesi, this was your own attempt to lay out the whole argument as a structured 10-part sequence for critical evaluation, after concluding from other discussions that "there are quite large gaps in the comprehension of my ideas." The plan: (1) Maxwell's equations plus relativity as the starting point, understood as the equations of a tensile medium; (2) their non-linearity once relativity is included; (3) non-linear standing waves necessarily developing harmonics over time — "This aspect has been ignored by everyone but me and is the unique difference in my ideas to all others, including those in WSM group"; (4) the consequence of harmonics generation producing especially strong waves at particular scales, matching the major structural scales of the universe. This series is essentially the compressed, public-facing version of the whole theory, three years before <em>Wobbly Universe</em> and worth treating as a primary source for its early development.</p>
<h2 class="western">An early draft of the book itself</h2>
<p>On 26 February 2004 you posted <strong>"Chapter 1 of Ray Tomes book"</strong> — by your own count, about the seventh rewrite of the opening chapter, titled "Universal Waves," explicitly slanted toward a WSM audience given your heavy involvement in the group at the time. You note in the post that you'd learned of William Clifford's 1870 matter-as-E/M idea from Milo Wolff and Geoff Haselhurst — useful confirmation of exactly where that thread of the lineage reached you from.</p>
<h2 class="western">The Michelson-Morley/Miller aether exchange</h2>
<p>Covered in the previous message — your fluid-aether-vortex explanation for Dayton Miller's ~8 km/s result, and Caroline Thompson's direct challenge that the direction was wrong for your hypothesis.</p>
<h2 class="western">Tesla, Schumann resonance, and the "X" and "Y" structural scales</h2>
<p>A short but striking post connects Tesla's 180,000 Hz power-transmission experiments to gaps in your own 34560-ratio structural hierarchy (Hubble scale → galaxies → stars → planets → moons → <strong>X</strong> → <strong>Y</strong> → cells → atoms → nucleons) — X and Y corresponding to roughly 1.7 km and 5 cm, with no obvious physical referent at the time. You noticed 1.7 km corresponds to about 175 kHz, close to Tesla's figure, and later found an anomalous experimental frequency series that were all sub-harmonics of ~172,800 Hz — with the Schumann resonance (7.5 Hz) × 34560 landing at 259,200 Hz, exactly 1.5× that figure. A genuinely interesting numerical near-miss worth revisiting given everything else this session has turned up about your harmonic-chain methodology.</p>
<h2 class="western">The Allais effect (eclipse gravity anomaly)</h2>
<p>In April 2004 you did your own back-of-envelope analysis of the pendulum-swing anomalies reported during solar eclipses (the "Allais effect," though you don't use that name) — comparing observed period changes (~0.08% at full eclipse) against a naive "Moon blocks the Sun's gravity" prediction (~0.03%), noting the observed effect runs more than double the naive prediction but in the right direction, and that the latitude-dependence of which experiments got positive vs. negative results (Scotland and Finland, both above 50°, got negative results) fits a Sun-elevation-angle explanation.</p>
<h2 class="western">The Big Bang, quasars, and Arp</h2>
<p>Two related threads: "The Top 30 Problems with the Big Bang" (sharing Tom Van Flandern's Apeiron Journal article) ties Halton Arp's quasar-ejection theory directly to harmonics theory, proposing that periodic energy ejection from a galaxy's rotation axis forms matter at progressively higher frequency in quantized steps of ratio 1.23, derivable from the harmonics theory equation (1+z)^h = 2. Later, "Big Bang Bung" (May 2005) is a dedicated webpage you built (ray.tomes.biz/bigbangbung.html) laying out the case in eight numbered steps, concluding "There was no big bang" — built explicitly on Narlikar's Variable Mass Hypothesis as the mechanism linking non-constant redshift to standing-wave particle structure.</p>
<h2 class="western">A personal thread: Vipassana and the WSM group</h2>
<p>A lovely, unexpectedly personal exchange from February 2004. Responding to a member (Karene) who mentioned starting Vipassana meditation, you wrote about your own first course — describing visiting "heaven and hell and a lot of other places in 10 days," being "absolutely determined to get enlightened in 10 days," and then, after coming home and telling your wife it would change your life, stopping almost all scientific work for <strong>nearly 5 years</strong> and completing 12 Vipassana courses over the following 3 years, before eventually feeling able to return to science "without it taking me over." A genuinely candid personal aside in the middle of an otherwise technical physics discussion.</p>
<h2 class="western">Two lighter, humanizing moments</h2>

You clearly found this very funny.</p>

<p>Worth flagging directly: the "Big Bang Bung" post ends with a notice that in March 2005 you were <strong>already moving away from Yahoo Groups to a dedicated forum</strong> — physics-philosophy-metaphysics.com/forum — "no longer... involved in this Yahoo discussion group (forums offer better environment for discussing ideas)." That's a distinct, earlier forum move than either the old cycles forum with Luke or the new Cycles and Harmonics forum — worth knowing about if it still exists or if any of its content/membership might be relevant to the preservation project or the new forum's founding invite list.</p>

<p class="font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal" dir="auto">British mathematician and philosopher, educated at King's College London and Trinity College Cambridge (fellow from 1868), later professor of mathematics at University College London (1871) and Fellow of the Royal Society (1874). Died young, of tuberculosis, at 33.</p>
<p class="font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal" dir="auto"><strong>The key work:</strong> On February 21, 1870, at 24 years old, Clifford delivered a short lecture to the Cambridge Philosophical Society titled <strong>"On the Space-Theory of Matter."</strong> It was never fully published at the time — only an abstract appeared, in the Society's <em>Proceedings</em> (1876). In it he proposed that:</p>

<li class="font-claude-response-body whitespace-normal break-words pl-2">Matter in motion is simply the variation of that curvature over time.</li>
<li class="font-claude-response-body whitespace-normal break-words pl-2">Even electrical phenomena could be understood the same way — as manifestations of varying spatial curvature.</li>
</ul>
<p class="font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal" dir="auto"><strong>Why he matters to WSM/relativity history:</strong> This is now widely recognized as anticipating Einstein's general relativity by roughly 45 years — the idea that matter <em>is</em> curved space, rather than an object sitting in space, is the same conceptual move Einstein made in 1915–16. Hermann Weyl noted this in 1923, and mathematician Eric Temple Bell wrote about it at length in <em>The Development of Mathematics</em> (1940), calling it bolder than even Riemann's own speculation. At the time, though, it was largely dismissed as unfounded speculation — one contemporary called it an "Icarian flight," and Bell himself later described it as being like hitting "the side of a barn at forty yards with a charge of buckshot" — a swing at the truth without the machinery to land it.</p>
<p class="font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal" dir="auto">His fuller views appeared posthumously in <em>The Common Sense of the Exact Sciences</em> (1885), completed and edited by Karl Pearson after Clifford's death.</p>
<p class="font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal" dir="auto"><strong>The WSM connection specifically:</strong> he's the earliest name in the lineage sketched out — matter as a property of space itself rather than discrete particles sitting in space is the seed idea that Schrödinger later echoed explicitly ("what we observe as material bodies are nothing but shapes and variations in the structure of space"), and that Wolff, Haselhurst, LaFreniere and the rest built the standing-wave version of. Clifford didn't have waves in the model — that's the later addition — but the core move of "matter is not a thing added to space, it's a state of space" is his.</p>
<p class="font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal" dir="auto"><strong>Dr. Yuri N. Ivanov</strong> — Russian researcher who independently developed what he calls "Rhythmodynamics," studying interference/moiré patterns formed by standing waves of the same or similar frequency. He derived an alternative to Galilean/Lorentzian transformations with the same proportions but scaled by an extra factor, and produced animated diagrams of these "spider effect" wave patterns (coiling interference lines) before LaFreniere did similar work. He's still active in the WSM community and posted a tribute when LaFreniere died in 2012, describing a private conversation they'd had shortly before LaFreniere's death about the theory's technological implications.</p>
<p dir="auto"><strong>Dr. Milo Wolff (1927–2019)</strong> was an American physicist and computer scientist with an unusually varied career — MIT (including work on the Apollo lunar-navigation system), the Aerospace Corporation, the United Nations, and physics professorships in Singapore, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Kentucky. Starting around 1985, he developed the <strong>Wave Structure of Matter (WSM)</strong>: the idea that an electron is not a point particle at all, but a standing wave formed from two spherical scalar waves — one travelling inward, one outward — meeting at a center. This single structure, he argued, reproduces the electron's known quantum-mechanical, relativistic, and charge/parity/time properties without needing a separate "particle" concept, and does so using only 3 spatial dimensions plus time (no extra dimensions required). Wolff built directly on William Clifford's 1870 "space theory of matter" and de Broglie's and Schrödinger's wave mechanics, and published his fullest account in <em>Schrödinger's Universe</em> (2008). WSM sits outside mainstream physics and has drawn real criticism (notably around the mathematical behavior of the wave center), but it remains an active line of inquiry — Wolff corresponded directly with independent researchers including Ray Tomes, welcoming him as a fellow "standing wave" thinker, and the tradition continues today through researchers like Jeff Yee (Energy Wave Theory). <p dir="auto"><strong>Ray Tomes</strong> — put the idea online  around 1994 that matter is standing waves of electromagnetism, arrived at independently through his own harmonics-ratio work rather than from Wolff's writing. Wolff found his posts and, recognizing the same conclusion, welcomed you to "the club" of people who understood particles as standing waves — joking there were then two members, though a few earlier researchers with similar understanding had already died. Also connected the WSM view to the atomic-particle mass/frequency prime-ratio pattern (primes 17, 19, 23), a link no other WSM researcher has commented on.</p>
<p class="font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal" dir="auto"><strong>Gabriel LaFreniere</strong> (Oct 4, 1942 – Apr 11, 2012) — French-Canadian researcher, ran the site "Matter is Made of Waves" (now mirrored at rhythmodynamics.com by Ivanov after LaFreniere's death). His signature contribution was software that generated animated GIFs of standing-wave particle structures — visualizations vivid enough that, by your own account, they showed things imagination alone hadn't captured even though you'd all been sketching similar diagrams by hand. He extended the model to the proton (as a composite of electrons/positrons) and worked with Jocelyn Marcotte on the mathematics of the moving electron's "phase wave." Widely credited in the WSM community (including by Jeff Yee) as the visual gateway that pulled a number of people into the theory.</p>
<p class="font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal" dir="auto"><strong>Geoff Haselhurst</strong> — runs spaceandmotion.com, describes himself as a natural philosopher and theoretical physicist; says he "discovered" WSM in 1997. Geoff did many interviews of Milo and publicized WSM.</p>

Not a physicist by training — came to the subject after seeing the electron described as a wave, and has said he wants the science to lead to real products, not just theory. <p>This has historically not been a specific subject in its own right, but a number of famous scientists of the twentieth century have spoken on the merits of a WSM perspective. These include William Clifford (in 1870), Einstein, de Broglie, Schroedinger, and later on Milo Wolff, Yuri Ivanov, Ray Tomes, Geoff Haselhurst, Gabriel La Freniere, Daniele Funaro and then many others got involved. The principle idea is generally that the fabric of space itself (sometimes called the aether) distorts and supports waves (possibly electromagnetic), and that particles are just a particular type of waveforms and not ultimately existing separately in their own right.</p>
