Solar dynamo irregularity linked to planetary forcing (arXiv, Feb 2026) William A. Gardner and Antonio Napolitano report that two of the Sun's well-known irregular periodicities — the roughly 27-day plasma rotation and the roughly 11-year magnetic polarity reversal — share a common underlying pattern in how their timing drifts. As the abstract puts it, the pattern "proceeds from zero delay to maximum delay, back to zero delay, then to maximum advance." The authors connect this to recent (November 2025) work proposing that planetary motions help drive the solar dynamo. Forecasting sunspot cycles 25 and 26 with 276 years of data (Scientific Reports, Jan 2026) Abdel Rahman and Badawy applied the Facebook Prophet forecasting model to sunspot counts stretching back to 1749, projecting the tail end of Solar Cycle 25 and the entirety of Solar Cycle 26 (through 2036). Their model puts Cycle 26's peak around mid-2034 with a smoothed sunspot number near 118. ENSO cycles are shortening under warming — "frequency entrainment" (Nature Communications, Jul 2026) Iwakiri and Kug used multi-model climate simulations (CMIP6) to show that as the El Niño–Southern Oscillation cycle shortens under future warming, that shift in rhythm propagates outward to other tropical climate modes and regions via teleconnections — a phenomenon they name "ENSO frequency entrainment." Spectral analysis finds Bitcoin has more than one cycle (FractalCycles, Jan 2026) Using Goertzel-algorithm spectral analysis on Bitcoin's price history, FractalCycles found the well-known four-year halving cycle is real but not alone — they also detect short multi-week cycles tied to derivatives funding-rate dynamics, multi-month intermediate cycles, and a longer structural cycle running independently of the halving calendar at roughly 9.5 months. They note on-chain activity data shows similar periods, which they treat as independent cross-validation of the price-based finding. None of the above images/charts should be lifted directly from the source pages (copyright). Three items are flagged above as good replot candidates — meaning the source states the underlying numbers (specific periods, peak values, or period bands) clearly enough that an original chart could be built from those figures rather than copied. Let me know which of those you'd like turned into an actual chart, and I'll build it.

Cycles Research: Obituaries and Legacies

A reference list of notable cycles researchers, ordered by death date (where known), for the "preserve alternate scientists" project. Martin Armstrong is deliberately excluded from this list given the harm he caused to FSC.

Edward R. Dewey (1895 – 1978)

Economist; founder of the Foundation for the Study of Cycles (FSC), incorporated 1941. As Chief Economic Analyst for the U.S. Department of Commerce under an assignment from President Hoover to identify the cause of the Great Depression, Dewey found economists gave no consistent explanation — leading him to study cycles in economic data directly. Documented reported cycles across more than 500 phenomena in 36 fields of knowledge, publishing Cycles: The Mysterious Forces That Trigger Events (1971) and the four-volume Cycles Classic Library Collection, and editing Cycles magazine from 1950. His finding that commonly reported cycle periods cluster around whole-number ratios (2s and 3s) is the direct historical seed of Harmonics Theory. Legacy status: Institutionally preserved via FSC/Cycles Research Institute, founded 2004 specifically to continue this work.

Theodor Landscheidt (1927 – 20 May 2004)

German author, West German High Court judge, and self-taught climatologist/astrologer who became one of the most substantive independent researchers into solar-planetary relationships. Founded and financed the Schroeter Institute for Research in Cycles of Solar Activity (1983, near Bremen, later Nova Scotia). Investigated solar inertial motion as a driver of sunspot cycle timing, publishing in journals including Solar Physics and Climatic Change. Forecast (1989) a solar minimum after 1990 with a deeper minimum around 2030 — now called the "Landscheidt Minimum" by others. A longstanding AGU member, though his solar-planetary work was often dismissed by mainstream solar physicists as "astrology." His death is described by later researchers as having relit interest that a new generation — including Geoff Sharp — has carried forward. Legacy status: Papers survive through a follower-maintained WordPress archive of PDFs. Not independently verified as complete or secure — a candidate for the "at risk" list.

Gabriel LaFreniere (d. 2012)

"Matter is Made of Waves" — independent researcher into the Wave Structure of Matter (WSM), presenting the case for matter as standing-wave interference patterns rather than point particles, at glafreniere.com. Legacy status: Fully preserved. The entire original site — images, optics section, program downloads, video demonstrations — was mirrored by volunteer "Mildred Ki'Lya" and remains at github.com/mildred/glafreniere and mildred.github.io/glafreniere.

Jerry W. Decker (6 Dec 1944 – 14 June 2017)

Founder and 29-year Sysop/Webmaster of KeelyNet, an archive/BBS (from 1988) dedicated to unconventional and "free energy" science, named after 19th-century inventor John Worrell Keely. Also founded sponsoring organization Vanguard Sciences. Found dead at home in Guadalajara, Mexico; U.S. Consulate confirmed natural causes following recent health issues. Announced by longtime collaborator Chuck Henderson; obituary ran in Infinite Energy magazine (Sept/Oct 2017). Legacy status: At risk. keelynet.com reported unresponsive as of July 2026. Partial, outdated mirrors exist: Swedish Association for New Physics (content to May 1995) and Bill Beaty's amasci.com (content to mid-1994). Chuck Henderson, who carried the site forward, is a likely contact — not yet reached.

Richard Mogey (d. ~2023)

Executive Director of the FSC from 1990, and Research Director/Chief Economist across two periods (1988–1997, then 2004–2010) spanning the Foundation's most difficult years, including its near-collapse in the late 1990s. Regarded as a direct heir to Dewey's approach — rigorous in determining cycle periods and phases, and a generous mentor to other researchers. Co-developed FSC's Techsignal software and later his own CycleTech software. FSC's own tribute called his passing "a great loss to the cycles community." Legacy status: Not independently assessed.

Gertrude Shirk (dates unconfirmed)

Editor of Cycles magazine and FSC Vice President, active in that role from at least 1974 through 1986. Retired from the position at some point, after which Jeffrey Horovitz took over leadership. Ray believes she has since died, though no specific date or source has been confirmed. Legacy status: Not assessed.

Not deceased (or status genuinely unclear) — included for completeness

Jeffrey Horovitz — psychiatrist who left his practice to lead FSC (based in Irvine, California) after Shirk's retirement, before leaving in the late 1980s to "pursue other interests," at which point Mogey took over. Personally significant to Ray: the two were in contact into the early 2000s and met in person in Florida around that time; Horovitz encouraged Ray to found CRI after FSC's collapse, and had appointed him to FSC's international board around 1990. Status since that contact is unconfirmed, but there's a real, warm personal history here worth following up on directly rather than treating as a cold lookup.

John T. Burns — Professor of Biology at Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas; chronobiology/endocrinology researcher; served as FSC Executive Director for five years and later as a Board member. Author of Cycles in Humans and Nature: An Annotated Bibliography, cited on Ray's own site. Ray exchanged emails with him in the past, though not in recent years. Status unconfirmed.

Dr Yuri N. Ivanov (Rhythmodynamics, WSM) — Ray believes he may still be alive, despite mirit.ru having lapsed to a domain-for-sale page. Tracked in detail on the separate ongoing status list rather than here.

Summary table

1. A person must have a verified email first.

2. Everyone must use their real name and real photograph in their profile.

3. Politeness and truth are expected. Malicious behaviour will not be tolerated but will get the user banned. It is fine to disagree with someone, not by name calling, but by evidence to the contrary. This is particularly true of forums like astrology, climate and cosmology where some people may have very different views. Be nice, especially to those that disagree with you. 🙂 

The forum has been set up with lots of material written or posted all over the web since 2000. Also important material from earlier times. Also with articles from CRI website and blog. Some of these posts are not so great but some have links to the real stuff.

I am inviting about 30 or so people who have real knowledge about various parts of the forum to start with, and after a week or two these people may like to invite people on their private lists etc. It is OK to include some self-promotion in your introductory post to "Introduce yourself please" forum area, please just make one post to that section but you may update it later. We will appoint some moderators from the various organizations that are listed in the forum. If you know of other organizations such as traders groups of various persuasions. then you make a reply to this post so that we can consider inviting them also.

On a monthly basis we will post cycles news to various categories, add new and old videos and articles and hopefully do interviews of people in the cycles world. Members with specialist knowledge are welcome to join in with this weekly cycle.

It is possible to have the forum appear on your own web site - Luke will post about how to do this in this forum.
