Welcome to Cycles Research Institute
To Foster, promote, coordinate, conduct, and publish scientific research and to carry on educational activities in respect to cycles and fluctuations in natural and social phenomena, and to function as a clearinghouse among scientists working in this area, in a manner dedicated to the public welfare.
Interdisciplinary
To study cycles and fluctuating phenomena in any and every discipline.
Scientific disciplines include astronomy, biology, brain waves, chemistry, climate, cosmology, dendrochronology, economics, eeg, geology, health, history, physics, physics, social trends, war, weather. Market studies include commodities, currencies, economics, exchange rates, finance, interest rates, markets, stocks and shares, trading. Other aspects of cycles include ancient knowledge, astrology, religion & spirituality and any other fields of study. Also of interest are the collection of time series data, mathematical techniques for cycles analysis, and theories of cycles and the relationship to music.

Objectives of the Cycles Research Institute
“Our mission is to discover, understand, and explain the true nature and origin of cycles, thereby solving the mystery of recurrent rhythmic phenomena, as has been observed in both the natural and the social sciences, and while so doing, to instruct others, and to apply this new knowledge for the greater good of all life.”
* First, to discover the causes and conditions for already observed and cataloged cyclic and rhythmic behaviors.
* Second, to classify discovered causes and conditions with the physical sciences.
* Third, to incorporate these causes and conditions into the mainstream of modern scientific theory and knowledge.
Although written by Edward R Dewey in 1967, this quotation is still just as pertinent today:
“…, insofar as cycles are meaningful, all science that has been developed in the absence of cycle knowledge is inadequate and partial. Thus, if cyclic forces are real, any theory of economics, or sociology, or history, or medicine, or climatology that ignores non-chance rhythms is manifestly incomplete, as medicine was before the discovery of germs.”
– Edward R. Dewey (Cycles Magazine July 1967)
Activities
Run a cycles web site with free access to multiple discussion groups, information on historical personalities and ideas, reports, electronic journal, time series data, analysis methods, educational resources and links to other sites with related material. To organise conferences with scientific and market papers presented, to appoint a board and advisers by specialty and region, to see that the affairs of the institute are properly managed. To find sponsors and instigate comprehensive research programs, have a permanent office and library for members.
Charitable status
To be a registered, not for profit, charitable organisation so that donations may be tax-deductible.
Membership
* Free access to discussion groups, historical information and papers.
* Members to have access to library, electronic journals and conferences.
* Advisory: Specialists in fields, referees for peer review, regional organisers, organisational officers.
(As at mid 2006, all CRI membership is free) Conferences.
To work towards holding annual conferences sometimes in each of USA, Europe and perhaps elsewhere. To include separate sections on scientific subjects and market related subjects, possibly in conjunction with other organisations.
Other Organisations
To try to foster relationships with other organisations including CIFA, FSC, MTA and many yahoo and msn groups. To republish old FSC papers and magazine articles on this web site.
Yahoo and MSN groups
Some 60 cycles based yahoo groups have been identified with a combined membership of about 12,000. No doubt some people belong to several groups, but many groups remain to be found (less than 1 day was spent searching) and MSN has not been examined yet but is likely to be about half as big again. In total it is expected that at least 100 groups and nearly 20,000 members will be found.
It is proposed that the owners of these groups be contacted and informed about CRI plans and invited to participate. A web site has been set up and will be kept with adequate capacity for disk space, email accounts, sub domains and bandwidth. As a first stage the groups will be invited to use file space on the new site. This will rapidly develop the site with a large number of historical files on cycles. Many time series data files will also be made available on the site. In a short time once the site is established. If possible and agreed to by the identified yahoo and msn groups, suitable software will be installed for running group discussions and the yahoo and msn groups will be offered to transfer to the site. The advantages of this will be to be ad-free, to combine several groups on the same topic, and to allow all the groups to be available for reading by all members even if they only want to receive email for a few.
A committee of group owners is envisaged along with other leaders of groups, perhaps totalling 100 persons in all. These would continue to act as moderators or minders of groups and also to select the best posts to be made into articles or be posted to a single “best of cycles” group. These people would also have privileges such as being able to load file or web pages to their subject section of the site.
Stage I

About this site
The Cycles Research Institute began operations in early September 2004. The site is rapidly expanding at present and submissions of cycles related material for the site and cycles related links are sought. You may join CRI so that you receive free occasional news of major updates, magazine publications and conference announcements. The first magazine issue will be published in January 2005.
Death Notices: Two cycles researchers within 2 days!
From CIFA site:
Dear colleagues,
I’m shocked and saddened by the news that Dr.Alexander Konradov is no more with us. He passed away on May 18, 2004. It happened unexpectedly for all of us. He was a wonderful friend, a bright person, an information and coordination center… He had all connections, all links, and all ends in his hands. It is a big loss for CIFA and for all our international and nterdisciplinary multilingual international scientific community.
Natalia Udaltsova,
General Secretary of CIFA
June 2004
After a serious illness, Theodor Landscheidt of the Schroeter Institute for Research in Cycles of Solar Activity passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2004. He was a long time member of the Foundation for the Study of Cycles, author and publisher of many papers on cycles. For some of his material see:
John Daly’s site. Note that John Daly of Tasmania also died recently.
