Cycles in the prediction of the end of the world

Just a bit of light relief.

Recently we had another failed prediction for the end of the world on 21st May 2011, but another one is due 21st December 2012. It turns out that there are a huge number of such predictions, some more widely publicized than others. One list has:
"44 failed & 1 ambiguous end-of-the-world predictions that were to occur between 30 & 1920 CE" at http://www.religioustolerance.org/end_wrl2.htm

Just looking at the recent dates, there is a strong tendency for the predicted dates to be at 17.3 year intervals going back from 2011. Only the big cluster of Watchtower (Jehovah's Witness) predictions from 1914 to 1925 (containing 5 failed predictions) are not within one year of this cycle except the 1925 one. The cycle includes years 1890, 1907, 1925, 1942, 1959, 1976, 1994, 2011. Actual predictions include 1891, 1914-1925 (cluster), 1941, 1975, 1994, 2011. Other commonly mentioned ones elsewhere are 1994, 2011 and 2012.

I predict that an end of the world prediction will be made for 2028. :ugeek:
